The idea for a ToolBank in Cincinnati was initiated by a few local residents who had heard news of the Atlanta ToolBank's impact on volunteerism, and wanted to bring that impact home. In late 2010, ToolBank USA staff engaged with these individuals toward the Cincinnati ToolBank. The first step involved an online community interest survey in greater Cincinnati. The 204 responses provided very inspiring feedback:

52% of respondents indicated that their organization was NOT adequately equipped with tools for the service projects they currently perform. (14% was unsure as to the adequacy of their existing tool resources; 11% indicated that their agency was adequately equipped);

87% indicated that their organization was very likely or somewhat likely to perform
MORE service projects than they currently perform, if they had access to typical ToolBank resources;

87% indicated that their organization was very likely or somewhat likely to execute
LARGER service projects than they currently perform, if they had access to typical ToolBank resources; and

68% of respondents whose organizations do not currently perform service indicated that they would be very likely or somewhat likely to START performing service projects, if they had access to typical ToolBank resources.

Armed with resounding community endorsement, ToolBank USA and a growing team of local leaders establish a board of directors to lead the implementation effort. The Cincinnati ToolBank was formed in May of 2011, and the effort to raise funds toward its creation is now underway!
